The Vanity 6

The Vanity 6

You could call this: putting your money where your mouth is. Or…really, maybe it’s closer to putting your mouth where your money is. Just exactly how “local” is local and sustainable food? Is it the 20 minute weekly drive to the farmer’s market? Is it a potato from Colorado? Or is it throwing on your sandals and getting an egg from the backyard? I think it’s yes to all three – it’s a continuum. But this year marks the first year we’ve gone just about as local as it gets. The journey so far has been more hypnotic than you might think raising six little bundles of feather fur can get. Looking at the girls now, I almost forget about how they used to sleep when they were just a week old: like crashed air-bombers, sacked out on their faces, little winglets all akimbo.

This is an ongoing look at their progress – currently about 200 grams a week, from insanely cute chickdom into free range egg-layin’ mamas. And extra credit gold stars and a free dozen to you if you catch the Prince reference, too…
