Radical Homemakers Harvest Swap

My friend Erin O’Neill and her colorful posse of gardeners proudly wear and promote their roles as homemakers – albeit of the radical persuasion – with such wholesome yet radical ideas as trading the bounty of their produce amongst each other, creating a barter economy outside the whole cash-capital-tax paradigm. For the third year in a row, the Radical Homemakers put out the call to “growers, gatherers and gleaners alike” to bring and share “bring fare that is homemade, homegrown, or foraged” at their third annual Harvest Swap.

Personally, I can barely grow my way out of a paper bag (although to be fair, that’s largely because I’ve surrendered the back yard to its rightful owners, aka the ladies) but I’ve been documenting Erin’s philosophy of “a life homegrown” in her garden over the past year, and never cease to be amazed at the artful beauty she brings to her garden, and the harvest it yields.

This year’s Harvest Swap was no exception to the colorful creativity I’ve grown to expect – all manner of salves, ferments, pickles, sauces, preserves and more – thanks to the Radical Homemakers for setting such a stunning and tasty example of communal abundance.
